Review: Cheoy Lee Shipyards

Posted by Priscilla Smith on May 15th, 2008

This business was started in 1870 by a man named Cheoy Lee. He started it in a shipyard in Shanghai, and it’s been very successful every since. In 1936, the business was moved to a british territory in Hong Kong.

In 1960, Cheoy Lee became a pioneer testing the use of fiberglass construction techniques and wood construction. In 1977, Cheoy Lee built the world’s largest GRP Vessel, the 130′ motorsailor Shango II. This man has the most beautiful yachts I’ve ever seen. I’ve never seen one up close, but in my research his work is very beautiful.

Cheoy Lee has 4 dealer on the globe currently, and maybe that number will grow. It was said that he plans on keeping this business around for the next generation to come, and I believe that they will only enhance what he’s already done. Among these locations for his dealers are Cheoy Lee Shipyards North America(North America
), European Distributor(Europe), Cheoy Lee Yachts Australia(Australia) and West Coast Distributor Yacht Enterprises LLC(Washington).

I’d really love to ride one the yacht made by his company, and his business really is successful throughout the globe. He has reason to keep it going and pass it down to the next generation. Very smart.
