The Eclipse, Soon to be the World’s Largest Yacht
Posted by Maita Yoldi on 10th July 2008
The construction of the world’s largest yacht is underway, hidden from view at a construction dock in germany. Owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, the Eclipse is his newest toy - among a bevy of other luxury yachts.
Abramovich will soon set a new standard in the mega-yacht trend. The picture shown at right is that of yacht M-147, has been largely compared to the Eclipse, and thought to be a prototype for it. It is said to have a swimming pool, a cinema and a disco, a capacity for 24 in six guest suites, five VIP suites and an owner’s cabin.
This megayacht will most likely be equipped with multiple helicopter pads and an integrated submarine, two features of the M-147 that is said to also be included on the Eclipse.
Mr. Abramovich, the Russian oil magnate ranked as the 11th richest man in the world by Forbes with $18.2 billion, has an impressive fleet. In addition to Eclipse — expected to measure more than 525 feet — he owns three other mega-yachts, including the 377-foot Pelorus and the 282-foot Ecstasea. He used to own four but recently awarded one, the 370-foot Grand Bleu, to a close business associate.
